Bringing Down the House

Truth be told, we knocked on the wrong door when we visited the home of actress-comedienne Giselle Sanchez-Buencamino for the first time. Except for CL’s perceptive EIC, everyone assumed that the charming, blue-gated home located somewhere in suburbia Quezon City was the address of the celebrated performer. It was posh, it was regal, it was huge—surely only an actress could live in such a place.

When we rang the bell however, a nice lady politely told us we got the wrong address.

Turned out, the unassuming, black-gated, large structure next door was Giselle’s actual home. But just like the Giselle who often gets the line, “maganda ka pala sa personal?” the house also turned out to be a real surprise.

For one, it welcomes guests to something really grand—a beautiful pool with cobalt tiles surrounded by a small, landscaped garden.

Upon entering the house, we were introduced to Giselle’s larger-than-life personality.

Hanging opposite the main door, a huge framed photograph of the actress during her early years greeted us with a smile.

Get over the initial shock, and one gets to notice the other elements—small things that make-up the house’s character. Like the roles she portrays, Giselle could be both loud and rowdy, but at the same time, as proven by our friendly and long conversation, she’s very witty and refreshingly sentimental.
